OUR STORY

Somsri & Pranee were born in Northeastern (Esan) Thailand in the 1950’s, and grew up in a small village near the city of Roi Et. All of the food they ate was locally grown, foraged, raised, hunted for, or fished for. Their family members who ate the traditional Thai Esan diet typically lived to 110 years plus, and they were healthy and active their whole lives. The Thai Esan style food is also very delicious.

Somsri and Pranee have between them about fifty years of restaurant experience, most out side of the U.S. Pranee’s nick name is Thim, and she and her sister owned and ran Thim’s Thai Restaurant near Clark Air Base, Philippine Islands, from 1984 to 1990.

In January 1990, Somsri married Earl "Gene" Roth, who is the other owner and business manager of the restaurant. Earl retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1997.

These two sisters had a dream to open a Thai Restaurant in the U.S. for many years. In June of this year, Somsri and her husband founded, Somsri’s Thai Cuisine, LLC, in Phoenix, Arizona. Next they found a location for the restaurant. In August, Pranee became a member of the LLC. Now the two sisters opened a restaurant, appropriately named by Pranee: Two Sisters’ Thai Food.

The grand opening of Two Sisters’ Thai Food was September 19, 2013.

Somsri and Pranee have experience in cooking the different styles of Thai Food.

They have selected for the opening menu four basic styles of Thai Food.

Northeastern Thailand is near the Laotian Border, and the food there is prepared with very little coconut. That also called Thai Esan food. The two sisters are from this part of Thailand, and have a number of dishes on the menu with this style of cooking. Their Thai Barbecue is Thai Esan food. The chicken and pork are marinated in the two sisters’ special blend of traditional Thai Esan Spices. Red curry without coconut is Thai Esan food.

Central Thailand, which includes Bangkok, has a lot of peanut and coconut milk in the sauces curries, and salads. The two sisters worked in restaurants that served Thai Bangkok style foods, and have items on the menu with those flavorings, and the green curry. The red curry with coconut is also Thai Bangkok food. The Massaman curry originated from the Muslim culture in Thailand and is also part of the Thai Bangkok foods.

Both of those styles of Thai food have a lot of Thai chilies in the sauces, soups, and salads. Thai chilies are as hot as habañero chilies, but have a special flavor all their own. The Thai spicy foods are often favorites of people who also like spicy Hispanic foods, and other spicy foods. The Thai recipes have additional flavors and textures not found in other spicy foods that add to an enjoyable eating experience.

The Thai Chinese culture also has its own unique flavors. The two sisters selected their special home made sweet and sour sauce to represent this style of Thai food. Another item is the Pineapple Fried Rice. These are often the favorites of children.

The last style of food severed at Two Sisters’ Thai Food is best called Thai- American food. Some Americans find the spiciness of the traditional Thai foods to be too intense for their tastes. The two sisters are very good at adjusting the level of spiciness, and slightly altering other items on the menu to the desires of their customers. Now this is known as fusion foods. This kind of cooking is also part of The Thai culture. Not every person from Thailand eats the real spicy food that Thailand is known for.
